David Liao is Co-CEO of Asia Pacific. He is also a member of the HSBC Group Executive Committee.
Before his current role, Mr Liao was Head of Global Banking Coverage, Asia Pacific from April 2020 to June 2021. He was previously President and Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Bank (China) Company Limited.
Mr Liao joined HSBC in 1997, and was responsible for local currency fixed income business in Greater China and Singapore. Mr Liao was appointed Treasurer and Head of Global Markets for HSBC in China in 2005. He became Head of Global Banking and Markets at HSBC China in December 2013. Mr Liao became Executive Vice President of HSBC China in March 2014. He assumed the role as President and Chief Executive Officer of HSBC China in April 2015. Mr Liao is also a Supervisor of HSBC Jintrust Fund Management Company Limited. He is a non-executive director and a member of the Personnel & Remuneration Committee of the Bank of Communications.
He is a member of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the 13th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and an Advisor of International Business Leaders’ Advisory Council for the Governor of Hubei. Before joining HSBC, Mr Liao previously worked in IBJ International (now Mizuho International).
Mr Liao holds an Honours degree from the University of London.
