Vence Bonham

Vence Bonham is an experienced researcher and academic with a focus on the social influences of genomic knowledge, particularly within communities of color. Serving at the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) from September 2003 to May 2021, Bonham held several prominent positions, including Acting Deputy Director, Associate Investigator, and Head of the Health Disparities Unit in the Social & Behavioral Research Branch. In these roles, Bonham examined how genomics interacts with the constructs of race and ethnicity in biomedical research and contributes to health inequities, while also advising the NHGRI director on genomics and health disparities. Prior to NHGRI, Bonham was an academic at Michigan State University, serving as both Associate and Assistant Professor from January 1995 to January 2007. Bonham holds a Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University James Madison College and a Juris Doctor in Health Law from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
