Ahmed Benchemsi has a diverse and extensive work experience. Ahmed started their career in 2001 as the CEO of TelQuel Group, where they also served as the founder and Editor in Chief of weekly magazines. In 2013, they transitioned into freelance journalism, opinion writing, and scholarly work, contributing to renowned publications such as Time magazine, Newsweek, and The Guardian. Ahmed'swriting also extended to academic institutions and think tanks. In 2015, they joined Human Rights Watch as the Communications and Advocacy Director for the Middle East and North Africa division. In this role, they played a crucial role as the primary spokesperson, conducting over 1000 interviews with international media in multiple languages. Ahmed initiated and led public campaigns on various human rights issues.

Ahmed Benchemsi completed a Master's degree in Economie du développement from Sorbonne University in 1994-1995. Ahmed then pursued a DEA (Diplôme d'études approfondies) in Political Science and Government from Sciences Po in 1998-1999. Later, Ahmed attended Stanford University as a Visiting Scholar in the field of Political Science and Government from 2011-2013.
