Stephen Northfield is the Deputy Chief Communications Officer for Human Rights Watch and is based in Toronto. He joined Human Rights Watch in 2013 and is responsible for the digital operations of the organization. He has a background in journalism, working for more than two decades as a writer and an senior editor. Most recently, he was Deputy Managing Editor of Digital at The Globe and Mail, based in Toronto. Previous to that he had a long stint as The Globe's Foreign Editor, and worked in a variety of senior roles in national and business news. He studied journalism and economics at The University of Western Ontario.
