The Charles B. Thornton President & Head of School at Harvard-Westlake School

As President and Head of School, Richard works with a wonderful team of administrators in overseeing both the business side and the school side of Harvard-Westlake, striving in everything they do to fulfill their mission. Before assuming this role in 2013, he served as Headmaster of Groton School in Massachusetts for ten years. Early in his career he taught English, coached soccer, and served as a dean at Harvard-Westlake, so his work in schools has come full circle. As an undergraduate, he was an Echols Scholar at the University of Virginia, and earned master’s degrees in English and education from Middlebury College and Stanford University.
