iGEM Competition
Maarten Lubbers is a PHD Student at Universiteit Leiden, focusing on elucidating the divisome using state-of-the-art synthetic biology approaches. Maarten is also an Antique Dealer at Lubbers Art & Collectables, a Junior Honorary Curator at Natuurhistorisch Museum Rotterdam, and Secretary at Stichting Vrienden van het Natuurhistorisch Museum Rotterdam. Additionally, Maarten is involved with iGEM Competition as a Judge, Committee Member, Advisor, and Project Supervisor. As a Co-founder & Secretary at SynBioNL, Maarten believes in the future of synthetic biology. Other roles include COVID-19 vaccinator, Master internship at Universiteit Gent, and involvement in various educational and scientific activities at Universiteit Leiden, showcasing a diverse range of interests and capabilities.

The iGEM Competition is an annual, world wide, synthetic biology event aimed at university, high school and graduate students. Multidisciplinary teams work all summer long to build genetically engineered systems using standard biological parts called BioBricks. iGEM teams work inside and outside the lab, creating sophisticated projects that strive to create a positive contribution to their communities and the world.
