Zoryana Harhas is an undergraduate researcher at the iGEM Competition since March 2019, focusing on the novel applications of carboxysome nanocompartments, while also engaging in literature review, experimental design, and member recruitment. Prior experience includes a brief engineering internship at ReNerve, where literature searches were conducted for a biocompatible graft alternative, as well as a role as a Blue Hen Ambassador at the University of Delaware, leading campus tours for prospective students. Zoryana also shadowed reconstructive plastic surgery patients at ChristianaCare, worked in customer service at Jersey Strong, and interned at CME Associates, where project proposals and designs were developed under the guidance of a senior civil engineer. Zoryana holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering from the University of Delaware, earned in 2022.

The iGEM Competition is an annual, world wide, synthetic biology event aimed at university, high school and graduate students. Multidisciplinary teams work all summer long to build genetically engineered systems using standard biological parts called BioBricks. iGEM teams work inside and outside the lab, creating sophisticated projects that strive to create a positive contribution to their communities and the world.
