The IIHS University is a unique and distinct knowledge institution focussed on transforming Indian cities, towns and villages to become more equitable, sustainable and efficient. It delivers large-scale impact through an integrated programme of quality campus-based interdisciplinary learning, and practice-based applied research based on India-centric knowledge, globally benchmarked curricula and innovative pedagogy.

The University uses urbanisation as the core of a new interdisciplinary knowledge paradigm, embedding teaching and applied research into a continuous learning ecosystem. It is built on the principle that 21st century Indian knowledge institutions should develop appropriate contextual knowledge to address problems rooted in local realities. The University is therefore rooted in a plurality of cultures, languages, practices and scholarship of India, and the Global South.
