Colin Nexhip has an extensive work experience in various roles and companies. Colin started their career at CSIRO as an Industrial Trainee & PhD Candidate before moving on to become a Research Scientist/Engineer and later a Senior Research Scientist/Engineer. In 2003, they joined Rio Tinto where they held several positions including Senior Metallurgist, Manager of the Graduate Program, Principal Advisor in Pyrometallurgy, Technical Manager of the Smelter, Operations Manager of the Smelter, and finally, General Manager of the Smelter. Colin also served as the Interim Managing Director and Chief Adviser for Asset Management at Rio Tinto. In 2015, they became a Company Director at Rio Tinto Kennecott Copper. In 2018, they became the Chief Executive Officer of MP Materials. Colin then joined Newmont Corporation where they served as the Group Executive in Innovation, Group Executive in Asset Management, and most recently, as the Vice President in Assets & Energy Management. Currently, they are the Chief Technology Officer at Iluka Resources.

Colin Nexhip has a strong academic background, with a focus on science and education. Colin obtained a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Melbourne from 1988 to 1991. Following this, they pursued further studies in science, earning a Bachelor of Science (Honors) degree in Chemistry in 1992. Colin's academic journey continued with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Melbourne from 1993 to 1998.
