Pete Backwell

Pete qualified as a Chartered Accountant at Deloitte and was a partner in the Tax Division before joining the Nedcor Group in 1991.

On moving to the banking side of the business, Pete later headed up Nedbank’s Corporate Banking Division before being appointed Managing Director of Retail and Wealth Management.

In this role, Pete was responsible for the Nedbank, Old Mutual Bank, Pick ‘n Pay-Go Banking, the Wealth Management businesses, and the insurance/assurance-related businesses.

Pete joined Halls in 2004 as Executive Chairman but stepped down from this role in 2006 to focus on developing the company’s investments in the financial services and pharmaceutical industries.

He was appointed MD of the HL Hall & Sons Group in 2014, where he continues to serve today.
