Philipp G. is a Professor of Mathematical Data Science at the University of Vienna, where Philipp has been since June 2016, also serving as Head of the Research Network Data Science and a Founding Member of the Research Platform DataScience@UniVienna. In addition, Philipp G. has been the Head of the RICAM Research Group "Mathematical Data Science" at the Austrian Academy of Sciences since April 2019 and a Member of the Board of Directors of the Austrian Mathematical Society since March 2018. Philipp G. holds the position of Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Information Theory since March 2018 and previously worked as an Assistant Professor of Applied Mathematics at ETH Zurich from October 2011 to June 2016. Philipp G. earned a PhD in Mathematics from Technische Universität Wien in 2007, following a Master's degree in Mathematics from the same institution in 2006.

The Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW) is Austria’s central non-university research and science institution. Its statutory mission is to “promote science in every way”. Founded in 1847 as a learned society, today the OeAW has over 770 members and 1,700 employees dedicated to innovative basic research, interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge and the dissemination of new insights with the aim of contributing to progress in science and society as a whole.
