About INSS The Institute of National Security Studies (INSS) is Sri Lanka's leading national security think tank, operating under the Ministry of Defence. Established to comprehensively analyze the nation's security landscape, INSS delivers timely assessments and recommendations to safeguard against diverse threats. It serves as an advisory body to key authorities, including the President, National Security Council, and Minister of Defence, offering crucial insights and research on various security dimensions. Originating from the need to counter both traditional and nontraditional threats faced by Sri Lanka, INSS was envisioned in 2015, culminating in its establishment as the Institute of National Security Studies Sri Lanka (INSSSL) in 2016, later renamed to INSS in 2020 by a cabinet decision. Vision - "To secure Sri lanka by nurturing visionary, collective, and decisive leaders in security policy and decision making." Mission - "To enhance National Security of Sri Lanka through excellence in research, education and networking."
