Howard Pfeffer is an accomplished technology executive with extensive experience in the telecommunications and internet sectors. Currently serving as President and CEO of Internet2 since June 2017, Pfeffer oversees a leading non-profit organization that provides advanced network and cloud services for the research and education community. Prior to this role, Pfeffer held senior leadership positions at Time Warner Cable from 2003 to 2016, where significant advancements in broadband internet, VoIP, and wireless technology were achieved. Pfeffer's earlier career includes positions at America Online Inc., Gold Wire Technology, YAS Corporation, Road Runner, Time Warner Inc., Prodigy Services Company, and Data Switch Corp. Howard Pfeffer holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering from Stony Brook University.

Internet2 is a collaboration of many U.S.-based universities to develop networking and advanced applications for learning and research.The Internet2 community develops and deploys network technologies for the future of the internet. These technologies include large-scale network performance measurement and management tools, secure identityand access management tools, and capabilities such as scheduling high-bandwidth, high-performance circuits.Internet2 members serve on several advisory councils, collaborate in a variety of working groups and special interest groups, gather at spring and fall member meetings, and are encouraged to participate in the strategic planning process.The Internet2 Project was originally established by 34 university researchers in 1996 under the auspices of EDUCOM.
