Craig Bargfrede

Craig Bargfrede currently serves as the Winter Operations Administrator for the Iowa Department of Transportation, overseeing a $40 million Winter Operations Budget and managing over 1,060 maintenance staff across 109 garage locations in Iowa. Previous experience includes positions as Deputy Adjutant General for the Minnesota National Guard, overseeing operations for over 10,000 personnel, and Chief of Operations for the Recovery Bureau at Iowa Homeland Security & Emergency Management, responsible for logistical coordination for 100 staff members. Craig has a military background, having commanded the 734th Agri-Business Development Team during a deployment to Afghanistan, and held roles in Public Assistance management within Iowa Homeland Security. Early career positions involve managing distributed learning programs at the National Guard Bureau. Craig holds a Master’s in Public Administration from Drake University and a Master’s in Military Strategic Studies from the US Army War College, complemented by a Bachelor’s in Agriculture Education from South Dakota State University.
