Byron Whalley has extensive maritime experience, currently serving as Master and previously as Chief Officer at The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company since April 2022. Byron is also an Ambassador for Careers At Sea since August 2018. Prior professional experience includes a role as 3rd Officer at Pacific Nuclear Transport Limited from September 2008 to April 2022. Educational qualifications include a Foundation degree in Nautical Science from Fleetwood Nautical College (2008-2011), a Foundation Degree in Sport Development from St Helens College (2007-2008), and A Levels in History, Science, Psychology, and Maths from Carmel College St. Helens (2005-2007), complemented by earlier education at Rainford High Technology College (2000-2005).

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is the oldest continually operating passenger shipping company in the world, having begun operations in 1830. Our three vessels, Manxman, Ben-my-Chree and the fast craft Manannan, operate regular ferry services between the Isle of Man, Heysham and Liverpool and seasonal services between the Isle of Man, Belfast and Dublin.
