Jorge Alvarez-Romero

Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at James Cook University

Jorge Alvarez-Romero is a Spatial Planning and Strategy Scientist at The Nature Conservancy, focusing on effective and equitable area-based conservation through regional collaboration and capacity building since February 2023. Concurrently, Jorge serves as an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow and former Research Fellow at James Cook University, where efforts center on developing spatially explicit tools for multi-objective catchment planning in northern Australia. A previous Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Jorge's research contributed to decision frameworks for natural resource management. Prior experience includes GIS support at the Australian Centre of Tropical Freshwater Research and coordination at Mexico's CITES Scientific Authority, involving wildlife trade analysis and conservation planning. Jorge holds a PhD in Systematic Conservation Planning and additional degrees in species management and biology.
