Joe Liu has extensive work experience in various leadership roles at 3M, starting in 1995 as a Senior Research Engineer and Research Specialist. Joe progressed through the company, holding positions such as Technical Manager, Laboratory Manager, Head of R&D and Technical Director, Vice President of R&D for the Asia Pacific and China Region, Vice President of R&D for International & Asia Pacific, and Vice President and Managing Director for the Southeast Asia Region. In 2020, Joe Liu joined James Hardie as the Senior Vice President and General Manager for the Asia Pacific. Joe later became the Chief Technology Officer. In 2023, Liu became a Member of the National Academy of Engineering.
Joe Liu received their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mechanics (Material Physics) from the University of Minnesota in 1995. Before that, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Multiphase Flow and Heat Transfer from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1989.
