Rebecca Irwin

Associate Principal, Registered Architect at Jasmax

An Associate Principal at Jasmax, Rebecca is an exceptionally capable architect. She has almost 20 years' experience in design, coordination, management and project leadership. Rebecca firmly believes the design process is enhanced through the integration of multiple perspectives and open, constructive collaboration. On large projects Rebecca leads project teams of up to 30 people and her priority is ensuring all team members are clear on scope, role and responsibility. Rebecca also works directly with clients and stakeholder groups on developing client briefs into successful and architecturally exciting schemes.

Rebecca always wanted to become architect. As a child she always drew prodigiously, especially house plans, and spent hours hidden away in her wardrobe under the eaves of her parents’ home making imaginary spaces and detailed three-dimensional models out of whatever materials she could scavenge. These included a kitchen, a hospital and even a car interior with painted scrolls providing the different views along her imaginary journey. As Rebecca said, “I had more fun making them than actually playing with them when they were finished. I was always making stuff when I was a kid.”

A desire to contribute has seen her steer her career toward public and institutional projects that bring benefit to the wider community. At Jasmax for over 10 years, for the last three she has been Project Architect on a new Population Health Building for the University of Auckland’s Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences.

Prior to joining Jasmax Rebecca was a Practice Director at Archimedia and a Director at The Architecture Office. In that time she accrued experience in both small and large scale projects across commercial, healthcare, masterplanning, community, education and recreation sectors.
