Matt Kernkraut has a significant amount of work experience in the development and fundraising sector. Matt began their career at Harvard University in 2003, where they held various roles, including Assistant Director of the Harvard College Fund and Regional Director of Capital Giving. Matt eventually became the Vice Dean for External Relations at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. From 2018, they have been working as the Chief Development Officer at the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County.

Matt Kernkraut obtained a Master of Education degree in Higher Education Administration from Harvard University. Prior to that, they completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Services and Political Science at The George Washington University.
