Atul Mathur is an experienced manufacturing and operations leader with a career spanning over four decades in various executive roles. Currently serving as the Director of Manufacturing Excellence at Johnson Controls – Hitachi Air Conditioning since July 2016, Mathur previously held several senior positions at Johnson Controls, including Director of Regional Manufacturing Excellence for the Asia Pacific region and Director of Operations in India. Prior experience also includes serving as CEO of Yutaka Autoparts Pune Pvt. Ltd, Vice President of Operations at Tata Johnson Controls Automotive Ltd, and managerial roles at Alfa Laval India Ltd and Larsen & Toubro Limited. Mathur holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, earned between 1977 and 1981.

Johnson Controls–Hitachi Air Conditioning was established on October 1st, 2015 as a joint venture between Hitachi Appliances, Inc. (now Hitachi Global Life Solutions, Inc.) and Johnson Controls, Inc. Hitachi Appliances carved out and contributed its air conditioning business to the Joint Venture. Johnson Controls acquired a 60% stake of the carved-out business and Hitachi Global Life Solutions, Inc. continues as a 40% shareholder of this venture.
