Crystal Faris

Deputy Director, Youth & Family Engagement at Kansas City Public Library

Crystal Faris has extensive experience in the library field, starting in 1986 with the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library. Crystal held various roles within the library system, including Branch Manager, Youth Services Librarian, and Manager of the Flanner House Branch. In 1998, they joined the Nassau Library System as the Youth Services Manager. In 2005, they joined the Kansas City Public Library, where they served as Branch Manager, Director of Teen Services, and Director of Youth & Family Engagement. Currently, they are the Deputy Director of Youth & Family Engagement, overseeing the department of youth librarians and coordinating services for children, teens, and their families. Crystal has demonstrated a strong focus on leadership, partnership development, strategic planning, and grant oversight throughout their career.

Crystal Faris obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Judson University. Crystal then went on to earn a Master of Library Science degree with a focus on Library and Information Science from Indiana University Bloomington. Additionally, they completed the ELI Fellowship program at Urban Library Council.
