Michael Penn

Michael Penn is a seasoned journalist and academic currently serving as the Visiting Journalist in Residence at Knox College, where responsibilities include leading the Journalism program and teaching students. As Editor-in-Chief of Galesburg Local News and Akihabara News, Michael oversees editorial operations for both a hyperlocal agency and a technology-focused publication, respectively. Michael is also the founder and president of the Shingetsu News Agency, the only Japanese news organization owned by a non-citizen. Other notable roles include Asia Offshore Wind Correspondent for reNEWS, Executive Editor for Asia Gaming Brief, and various leadership positions within the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan. Michael's educational background includes a Master of Arts in Middle East Studies from The University of Texas at Austin, and a Bachelor of Arts in History from UC Santa Barbara.
