Derek Lapenna

Derek LaPenna is a highly experienced Chief Systems Engineer at L3Harris Technologies, with a career spanning over two decades in systems engineering. Since July 2019, Derek has focused on developing innovative system architectures and leading technical proposals to enhance customer missions. Prior experience includes roles at Harris Corporation, where strategic coordination of customer-funded initiatives and technical interfaces played a key role. Before that, at Exelis, Derek served as Principal Investigator and lead on several airborne electronic warfare system development programs, emphasizing Model-Based Systems Engineering. Starting with ITT, Derek generated system requirements and led high-visibility testing efforts, showcasing a strong foundation in technical problem-solving and collaboration. Educational qualifications include a Master of Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology and dual Bachelor's degrees from New York University and Stevens Institute of Technology.
