Ismel Gonzalez

Ismel Gonzalez, PhD, serves as the Director of the English Language Centre at Lakehead University since September 2014, overseeing programming and accreditation for the centre on both the Thunder Bay and Orillia campuses. Additionally, Ismel has contributed to the Faculty of Education as a Researcher and Adjunct Professor since 2008, instructing courses in literacy and social studies. In a diverse range of roles, Ismel also works as an Adult Education Assessor for the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities and as a Translator and Court Interpreter for the Thunder Bay Multicultural Association. Previously, Ismel held the position of Associate Director at Lakehead University International, managing academic and administrative activities and staff development. An expert in language education, Ismel has implemented innovative assessment approaches for additional language learners. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Social, Cultural and Political Contexts of Education, an M.Ed. in Second Language Learning and Teaching, and ongoing study for a certificate in Senior Management Leadership from the University of Toronto.
