Ben Mohr's work experience begins in 2012 when they worked as a Teaching Assistant and a Research Assistant at The Ohio State University. Ben'sresearch involved developing and synthesizing a cellulose-based planar solid phase for colorimetric detection of aqueous anions.
In 2014, Mohr joined Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a Graduate Research Assistant. Ben focused on designing and implementing genetic tools and methodologies to explore the relationship between living cells and crude cell-free systems for metabolite production platforms. Ben also developed analytic and cell-free protein synthesis methods to study microbial natural products within the Populus deltoides root microbiome.
From 2016 to 2019, Mohr served as the Co-Founder and CTO of SimPath, a company that aimed to license and commercialize molecular cloning technology developed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Starting in 2019, Mohr joined Tierra Biosciences as a Scientist. Here, they launched a custom protein synthesis platform, prototyped novel cell-free protein synthesis systems, and presented grants and research plans for expanding structural and functional diversity of proteins made in cell-free systems. Ben also designed and executed experimental plans to support intellectual property claims.
Most recently, Mohr joined LanzaTech in 2022 as the Lead Cell-free Scientist. Further details about this role, such as start and end dates, are not provided.
Ben Mohr earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Energy Science and Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville from 2014 to 2019. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Evolution and Ecology from The Ohio State University from 2010 to 2014.
