Mikko Virta possesses extensive experience in energy management and business development, currently serving as Business Development Manager, Project Manager, and Energy Efficiency Specialist at Danfoss Leanheat Building since October 2017. Previous roles include Energy Specialist and Junior Energy Specialist at Ovenia, where energy management of a residential property portfolio was a primary focus. Mikko also contributed to Aalto University as a Research Assistant and Project Coordinator, overseeing the planning and renovation of the Energy Garage, and provided guidance to students as a Practical Training Advisor. Early professional experiences include summer trainee positions at Aalto University Properties Ltd and a role as Logistics Assistant at Oticon Oy. Mikko holds a Master’s Degree and a Bachelor’s Degree in Energy Technology from Aalto University.

Leanheat’s development began in 2011. The first sites with Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies were taken into use in 2013. And officially Leanheat as a company was founded in 2016. Since then, growth has been vigorous. Leanheat is now installed in around 80,000 apartments. The system also controls the indoorclimate for schools, gas stations, fire stations, and city halls. It is the world’s largest IoT solution for collective heating.Fully automated and self-learning, Leanheat’s solution provides real-time optimization not only for individual buildings, but entire clusters of apartment buildings – while at the same time giving the opportunity for district heating companies to serve their customers more efficiently and with a smaller carbon footprint.They work in collaboration with industry pioneers such as Fortum and Danfoss. Piloted in Finland with its harsh climate conditions, we are now looking at rapid international expansion.
