Sampo Kaukonen is a Data Scientist at Leanheat since August 2016, focusing on data analysis related to building energy systems, optimizing heating efficiency, and diagnosing HVAC system faults. Prior experience includes working as an Analyst at Fortum, where tasks mirrored thesis research on district energy systems, and as a Thesis Worker contributing to R&D projects using Apros dynamic simulation software. Sampo's earlier roles include a Data Analyst position at SportIQ, developing algorithms for sports technology, and Research Assistant positions at Aalto University, engaging in experimental studies on solar cells and aerosol drug delivery. Sampo holds a Master's degree in Engineering Physics and a Bachelor's degree in the same field from Aalto University.

Leanheat’s development began in 2011. The first sites with Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies were taken into use in 2013. And officially Leanheat as a company was founded in 2016. Since then, growth has been vigorous. Leanheat is now installed in around 80,000 apartments. The system also controls the indoorclimate for schools, gas stations, fire stations, and city halls. It is the world’s largest IoT solution for collective heating.Fully automated and self-learning, Leanheat’s solution provides real-time optimization not only for individual buildings, but entire clusters of apartment buildings – while at the same time giving the opportunity for district heating companies to serve their customers more efficiently and with a smaller carbon footprint.They work in collaboration with industry pioneers such as Fortum and Danfoss. Piloted in Finland with its harsh climate conditions, we are now looking at rapid international expansion.
