Mikhail Tsurkan

Mikhail Tsurkan, PhD, serves as Co-founder and CEO of TissueGUARD since December 2020, focusing on medical devices for cornea and retina transplantations. Concurrently, Mikhail has been involved with the Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research Dresden since October 2007, contributing to chemical and analytical developments of polymers and bioconjugation materials. As Team Lead of the TissueGUARD research initiative, Mikhail oversees the development of innovative materials and devices aimed at enhancing tissue and organ preservation during transport. Previous roles include Head of Laboratory for Peptide Synthesis as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist, where Mikhail specialized in biofunctional polymer materials for stem cell growth control, and a Research Associate position at the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden, focusing on biomaterials and regenerative therapies. Mikhail's academic background includes a PhD in Chemistry from Bowling Green State University and a Diplom in Chemistry of Natural Compounds from Saint Petersburg State University.
