John Charnley has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. John began their career as a Tax Consultant at Bridgepoint in 1997 and then worked as a Business Analyst at NatWest from 1999 to 2000, focusing on SAP. John then joined Deutsche Bank in 2001 as a Business Analyst, where they managed the remediation team for the ICON Oracle sub-ledger project and worked on various projects in Money Markets, Repos, Risk, and FX.
In 2003, John moved to Royal Bank of Scotland Business as a Business Analyst, where they implemented the Hedge Manager IAS 39 system and conducted quantitative analysis of hedge effectiveness. John then transitioned to Imperial College in 2009, working as an AI Researcher on projects related to ML, agents, games, automated reasoning, combined reasoning, automated discovery, and mathematics. John was also involved in teaching, pastoral care, administration, and finance.
In 2013, John joined Goldsmiths, University of London, as an AI Researcher and lead developer of the FloWr online portal for Computational Creativity and automated software development. John also contributed to the creation of the computer-generated musical "Beyond The Fence." From 2013 to 2016, they held various roles at Whitespace, including Lead Developer for the Optimicer financial services web marketplace and Chief Technology Officer responsible for technology strategy.
John's career then took him to Aquis Exchange in 2016, where they worked as an IT Consultant for Whitespace. John led a team in implementing the NEX Exchange response to MIFID II and upgraded existing exchange platforms while integrating them with a new FCA MDP reporting platform. John also developed a cloud-based real-time exchange surveillance system.
In 2018, John joined Shaype as an IT Consultant for Whitespace. John played a key role in the project management and development of a greenfield mobile-first challenger bank, including third-party service acquisition, platform architecture, and SSDLC.
John's most recent position, starting in 2023, is as a Principal Developer at Lendscape. The specific details of this role are not provided, but it marks their continued growth and expertise in the field.
John Charnley received their Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Mathematics from The University of Manchester, where they studied from 1988 to 1991. John then pursued further education at Imperial College London, earning a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Computing Science from 2004 to 2005. John later completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Artificial Intelligence at Imperial College London, studying from 2005 to 2009.
