Sunghoon Hong

Sunghoon Hong is an AI Scientist at LG AI Research since March 2022, focusing on reinforcement learning for petrochemical plant scheduling and combinatorial optimization for circuit design, and has been recognized with the 2025 LG Awards. Prior to this role, Sunghoon was a Master's student at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology from March 2020 to February 2022, where two research papers were published at top-tier machine learning conferences ICLR 2021 and ICLR 2022, and contributions to projects included power grid optimization and equipment control for POSCO steel plants. Sunghoon's research interests include deep reinforcement learning and graph neural networks. Previous experience also includes serving as Auxiliary Police at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency from September 2016 to June 2018. Sunghoon holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Yonsei University, obtained in February 2020.
