Heather L. Hodges became the director of the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor NHA in November 2017. The Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor was created by an Act of Congress in 2006 and its purpose is to preserve, share and interpret the history, traditional cultural practices, heritage sites, and natural resources associated with the Gullah Geechee people of coastal North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. During her tenure, she has placed an emphasis on developing educational programs, supporting cultural documentation and historic preservation efforts, encouraging heritage tourism, and fostering new research to facilitate interpretation of Gullah Geechee history and culture.
