Mario Souza

Mario Souza is a seasoned professional in data systems engineering and photonics, currently serving as a Staff Data Systems Engineer at Lightmatter since March 2024. Prior to this role, Mario held various positions at Aeva from July 2021 to March 2024, including Manager of Data Platforms and Data Platform Lead, where expertise in lidar manufacturing and business processes was leveraged. At PsiQuantum, from May 2018 to July 2021, Mario contributed as Data Systems Lead and as a Photonics Engineer, focusing on data workflows and photonic simulation infrastructure. Early academic experiences include a Graduate Research Assistant position at the University of Campinas, where a thesis earned a best thesis award, and a Visiting Graduate Researcher role at the University of California, San Diego, which involved projects on ultrafast optics. Mario’s educational background encompasses a Diplôme d'Ingénieur in Laser and Optical Engineering from Institut d'Optique Graduate School and a PhD in Physics from Universidade Estadual de Campinas.
