Matthew W. is currently the VP of People Operations at Lyft. Prior to this, they worked as a Sr. Software Engineer and Tech Lead for Web Platform at Twitter from August 2012 to October 2015. There, they built and launched a critical-path service to route traffic across all of Twitter's desktop and mobile web properties. Matthew also led the Web Services team (10 engineers), supervised and trained employees, developed roadmaps, and led incident response. Furthermore, they orchestrated a web stack migration from Rails to Scala for 1000 endpoints with 30 engineers. This resulted in $6M in annual savings, 6x faster page loads, 10x faster deploys, 50% less downtime, and 60% fewer servers.

Before Twitter, Matthew founded and was the Principal Engineer at SquidMixer from March 2011 to July 2012. During that time, they launched five games that ranked 27th globally in iPad action games and were in the top 10 in multiple countries. Matthew was responsible for designing, implementing, animating, illustrating, releasing, and marketing the games on one- and two-person teams. Additionally, they built a procedural content generation system to create, solve, and evaluate the difficulty of levels for a puzzle game.

Matthew's skills include iOS app development, game design, procedural content generation, objective C, cocos2d, and ruby.

Matthew W. has a Masters of Science in Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Matthew also has a Bachelor of Science Dual in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science and Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
