Johan van Walsem is an accomplished executive with extensive experience in operations and technology commercialization across the biotechnology and cleantech sectors. Currently serving as Chief Operations Officer at Lygos, Johan van Walsem focuses on large-scale manufacturing of sustainable products and integrates new product developments into operational strategies. Previously, as President and COO at Sierra Energy, responsibilities included commercializing FastOx waste-to-energy technology and overseeing international deployments. Johan van Walsem has held various leadership positions, including Chief Operating Officer at Metabolix, Inc., where contributions were made to biopolymer and biobased chemicals. Educational credentials include an MBA from the University of South Africa and a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pretoria.
