Major Group for Children and Youth
Terry Otieno is a dedicated professional with extensive experience in project coordination and youth advocacy, currently serving as a Project Officer for the UNDRR SEM at GNDR since May 2024, where responsibilities include facilitating stakeholder engagement in the 2030 Agenda processes. As the Global Focal Point for the Major Group for Children and Youth since August 2020, Terry mobilizes youth for UN processes, oversees the DRR team, and champions inclusive policy participation for young people. Previous roles include Co-Chairing the Intergenerational & Youth Subcommittee for the 2024 UN Civil Society Conference and Co-Chairing UNDRR SEM, emphasizing stakeholder involvement in disaster risk reduction efforts. Terry Otieno is pursuing a Master of Arts in Public Policy and Administration at Kenyatta University, building on a Bachelor of Arts in the same field from the same institution.

Major Group for Children and Youth (MGCY) is a self-organized space for children and youth (aged 0-30) to contribute to and engage in certain intergovernmental and allied policy processes at the UN since 1992. Our mission is to bridge children and youth and the UN system in order to ensure that their right to meaningful participation is realized. We do so by engaging children and youth entities in formal and informal forms in the design, implementation, monitoring, follow-up and review of sustainable development policies at all levels in four areas: Policy & Advocacy, Capacity Building, Youth Action and Knowledge.
