MAKAIA
Catalina Escobar Bravo has over 20 years of experience in various roles and organizations. Catalina is currently the Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer at MAKAIA, where they have been leading the organization since 2006. As the Executive Director, they played a key role in transforming MAKAIA from an idea into an organization that has served numerous non-profits and social projects in Latin America.
Prior to MAKAIA, Catalina worked at The World Bank as a Business Analyst and Project Manager. During their time there, they managed web-related projects that focused on collaboration and knowledge sharing. Catalina also contributed to the analysis of the World Bank search systems.
Catalina also worked as a Consultant at the Inter American Development Bank. In this role, they developed proposals and research papers on ICT and telecenters initiatives in Central America. Catalina also organized workshops and events focused on digital solutions for social and economic development.
Before that, Catalina worked at the Development Gateway Foundation/World Bank as a Consultant. Catalina served as the primary liaison for portal development activities and led the development of web development quality standards for Country Gateways in Latin America.
Earlier in their career, Catalina was a Business Consultant at Commerce One, where they were part of a team that designed and developed a web-based Dental Practice Management System.

Catalina Escobar Bravo has a diverse education history. In 1990, they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad EAFIT. Later, in 1998-2000, Catalina pursued an MBA in International Business at The George Washington University School of Business. In 2007-2008, they specialized in International Cooperation for Development, obtaining an Especialización degree from Fundación Cyes. Lastly, in 2011, Catalina received a Certificate in Non-Profit Management from Georgetown University. MAKAIA es una organización sin ánimo de lucro que potencia capacidades para el desarrollo social desde la cooperación, la tecnología y la innovación. MAKAIA significa "construir" o "hacer", en Miskito (lengua indígena de Honduras). Su nombre representa el objetivo de MAKAIA: construir alianzas y relaciones orientadas al desarrollo social y económico Creada el 3 de junio de 2006, fruto de la decisión de emprender de sus tres fundadores Catalina Escobar, Camilo Mondragón y María Claudia Camacho. Tres colombianos que después de estudiar y trabajar en el exterior decidieron fundar una organización con el ánimo de aportar al desarrollo del país, aprovechando su conocimiento, experiencia y redes de contactos; en la actualidad MAKAIA es reconocida a nivel nacional e internacional, por su experiencia en el fortalecimiento institucional y destacados programas y proyectos enfocados en el desarrollo del sector social. MAKAIA was born from the vision of its three founders Catalina Escobar, Camilo Mondragón and Maria Claudia Camacho on 3 June 2006. Three Colombians who, after studying and working abroad, decided to establish an organization with the aim of contributing to the development of the country, by taking advantage of their knowledge, experience and networks. Nowadays, MAKAIA is recognized nationally and internationally for its experience of institutional strengthening and outstanding programs and projects focused on the development of the social sector. Mission: We strengthen capacities for social development through technology, innovation and international cooperation. Vision: Every person and organization has the information and knowledge to transform themselves and their communities.
