Krystle McKnight, M.Ed, currently serves as the Middle School Principal at Mallard Creek STEM Academy, a position held since July 2022. Prior to this role, Krystle worked as a Mathematics Teacher at Southwest Charlotte STEM Academy from August 2020 to May 2022 and has held various positions at Charlotte Secondary School including Director of School Culture, Dean of Students, and Math Instructor from August 2014 to June 2020. Earlier experience includes serving as a Finance Officer at Due Season Designs LLC and a Mathematics Instructor at Fayette County Public Schools and KIPP Memphis Collegiate Schools. Krystle McKnight earned a Master of Education in Multi/Interdisciplinary Studies from Middle Tennessee State University in 2008 and a Bachelor of Science in Education from the same institution in 2007.

Our Leadership The governing board of Mallard Creek STEM Academy is excited to open this school and serve students by providing them a true integration of a STEM focus beginning in Kindergarten and using a workshop model for instruction allow students to read and write on their own levels and to grow and improve at their own pace! Our students will be served by teachers who have been trained by The Teachers College of Columbia and Discovery Place Education Studio to ensure they have the most advanced education using the best instructional practices. Discovery Place From inquiry-based hands-on state-of-the-art labs to live animals and ever-changing exhibitions, Discovery Place engages minds and ignites wonder during an unparalleled learning experience. Out students will benefit from our partnership with the Education Studio: Discovery Place Education Studio Bringing wonder to the teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Discovery Place Education Studio is a professional development program serving pre K-12 educators and administrators from schools, museums, science centers, zoos and aquariums. Teachers College of Columbia Our Reading and Writing Teachers have been trained by the Teachers College of Columbia through the Reading and Writing Project. All ELA teachers are trained to deliver their content through a workshop model designed to engage students and increase student achievement. The mission of the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project is to help young people become avid and skilled readers, writers, and inquirers. We accomplish this goal through research, curriculum development, and through working should-to-shoulder with students. teachers, and school leaders. The organization has developed state-of-the-art tools and methods for teaching reading and writing, for using performance assessments and learning progressions to accelerate progress, and for literacy-rich content-area instruction. www.readingandwritingproject.org
