Maverick Natural Resources
Peila Chen has a diverse work experience in the oil and gas industry, focusing on reservoir engineering and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques. Peila is currently employed as a Senior Reservoir Engineer at Maverick Natural Resources, where they are responsible for reservoir engineering of secondary/tertiary floods, including waterflood optimization and CO2 flood pattern review.
Prior to their current role, Peila worked as a Senior Research Associate at the University of Houston from 2017 to 2023. During this time, they supported integrated reservoir management programs and CCUS development in various formations. Peila also developed reservoir simulation models for primary, waterflooding, and EOR processes. Additionally, Peila managed the GURI EOR research laboratory at UH Tech Bridge campus.
From 2014 to 2017, Peila worked as a Project Manager at Intertek Westport Technology Center. In this role, they managed EOR projects and conducted studies on miscible and immiscible gas/CO2 flooding and WAG flood. Peila also coordinated relative permeability and capillary pressure studies at reservoir conditions.
Peila's work experience also includes a role as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering department at The University of Texas at Austin from 2009 to 2014. Peila'sresearch during this time focused on enhanced oil recovery in fractured vuggy carbonates, studying the effects of vug networks and fractures on flow and transport in porous media.
In 2012, Peila interned as a Reservoir Engineer at TOTAL E&P, where they developed alternative partitioning tracers and evaluated the feasibility of performing Single Well Tracer Tests at reservoir conditions.
Peila began their career as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Pharmacology & Toxicology Division in the College of Pharmacy at The University of Texas at Austin from 2006 to 2008.
Overall, Peila Chen has a strong background in reservoir engineering and has contributed to various research projects and EOR studies throughout their career.
Peila Chen's education history begins in 2006 when they enrolled at The University of Texas at Austin as a Graduate Research Assistant in the field of Pharmacology & Toxicology. Peila pursued this program until 2008 when it was completed. In 2009, they continued their education at the same university and obtained a Master of Science in Engineering degree in Petroleum Engineering, which was completed in 2011.
Driven by their passion for knowledge, Peila Chen then went on to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Petroleum Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. Peila began this program in 2009 and successfully completed it in 2014.
