Jean-Francois Legault

Jean-Francois Legault is a seasoned legal professional currently serving as General Counsel and Director of Legal Services at McGill University since June 2023. Previously, Jean-Francois held the position of Chief Legal & Risk Officer at VIA Rail Canada from September 2022 to June 2023, and from May 2014 to July 2021, where responsibilities included overseeing a legal and risk management team, implementing the Enterprise Risk Management program, and managing governance and insurance matters. Prior to VIA Rail, Jean-Francois was a lawyer at Delegatus, Legal Services inc, and held various legal leadership roles at Gildan and Bell Canada, including Vice-President, Legal Affairs. Earlier in the career, Jean-Francois served as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at Transat, and as Senior Counsel at BCE Mobile. Jean-Francois holds a Law Degree (LL.L) from the University of Ottawa, obtained between 1983 and 1986.
