Mel Ona

Clinical Advisor at Medtrics Lab

Dr. Ona is a gastroenterologist in private practice and lives in Hawaii with his wife, Jennifer, and their two awesome dogs (Rebel and Chloe).

He received advanced endoscopy training at the renowned Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He completed his gastroenterology fellowship at The Brooklyn Hospital Center (affiliate: Mount Sinai Hospital) where he also served as chief GI fellow. Dr. Ona did his Internal Medicine residency at NYU Langone Hospital – Brooklyn (formerly Lutheran Medical Center) and served as a PGY-3 Chief Resident. Dr. Ona graduated with an M.D. from St. George’s University School of Medicine. Prior to medical school, he received a Master of Science degree in Nutritional Biochemistry and Metabolism with a Specialization in Physiology from the Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University.

He also has a Master of Arts in Medical Science from Boston University School of Medicine and a Master of Public Health from Boston University School of Public Health. Dr. Ona graduated from College of the Holy Cross with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music and pre-medical studies.

Most recently, Dr. Ona has had several medical books published and begun a faculty position as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine for the University of Hawaii’s John A. Burns School of Medicine.
