Research Capacity: The Ocean Engineering Research Centre (OERC) is involved in research, development and consulting with application to most aspects of ocean engineering, including the offshore and naval architectural engineering industries. Activities include scale model experiments, numerical modelling, software development and structural testing. Projects Undertaken: ice-structure interaction; design and development of roll stabilizing systems for small fishing vessels; parametric identification of hydrodynamic characteristics from ship manoeuvring trials using neural networks; operation of marine propellers in ice-blocked flow; nondestructive evaluation of cracking in steel structures through acoustic and vibration techniques. Research Organization And Staff: the group includes naval architects, mechanical, civil, electrical and ocean engineers, applied mathematicians and hydrodynamicists.
