James started his career in his teen years. His summer vacations were spent working on the moving trucks as a drivers helper. I eventually moved into the warehouse working at Dahill Mayflower in Brooklyn, NY. I learned warehouse operations, inventory control, dispatching of the crews and general people skills while working the summers in Dahill Mayflower's warehouse.
During my college time I was an owner operator. I worked for Liberty Moving and Storage a local Allied Van Lines agent in Hauppauge, NY. My duties were mainly packing, but sometimes I did very small local storage pickups.
I decided that I wanted to try sales in the moving and storage industry. I was hired by Hamilton movers a local United Van Lines agent in Huntington, NY. During this 5 month period I learned a lot about the sales process and all of the numerous factors involved in this position. I decided to move on because I was offered a great job at Marshall Fine Arts Limited in Huntington, NY. The duties of this job were packing, crating and moving assorted artworks. These pieces ranged from $50,000 paintings to irreplaceable artifacts for the New York Public Library. I dealt with movie stars, athletes, curators, the artists and just everyday people with beautiful artwork.
I then decided with all my skills I should be more successful in sales in the moving and storage industry. I joined Men on the Move Moving and Self Storage in Floral Park, NY. My sales territory here consisted of some of the most expensive zip codes in the US. The area was called the "GOLD COAST" or the North Shore of Long Island. In my 7 years at Men on the Move my sales helped grow the fleet from 12 trucks to 22 trucks. The self storage business grow so fast they purchased another storage facility.
My responsibilities are to attract/maintain corporate accounts. I also help with the development of programs to assist the self paying (COD) customers of the moving and storage industry.
