James Canny

James Canny is an experienced professional with a diverse background in law, energy, and sports management. Currently serving as Director at the New Zealand Hydrogen Council since October 2024, James has held multiple roles at Meridian Energy since October 2014, including Commercial Manager, New Ventures Manager for Hydrogen and Energy Transition, Senior Legal Counsel, and Legal Counsel. Additionally, James is the General Manager and founder of the New Zealand Cycling Project, known for managing MitoQ - NZ Cycling Project, the country's longest-standing elite cycling team. Previously, James worked as a lawyer at DLA Piper from February 2011 to June 2014, specializing in corporate governance and commercial law. James holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) from the University of Otago, completed from 2004 to 2008.
