Tommy Ockerby-Tran is an accomplished data engineering leader with extensive experience spanning over two decades. Currently serving as Director of Data Engineering for Messenger at Meta since August 2020, Tommy oversees multiple teams focused on building foundational data structures that enhance machine learning and user interactions. Previously, as Director of Data Engineering for Meta Shops Ads, Tommy successfully established and scaled a 35-member organization to support millions of users on Facebook and Instagram. Prior roles include Senior Director of Global Data Engineering & Technology at Expedia Group, where management of a 130-member team was instrumental in developing the company’s Data Platform, and various positions at Starbucks, Onyx Software, and Safeco Insurance. Tommy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Management Information Systems from Oregon State University.
