Electrical Engineer III (senior)

Job description

Based at our global headquarters in Houston, TX, the Senior Electrical will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of electrical systems and components within a manufacturing environment. This role involves ensuring the reliability and efficiency of electrical equipment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to support production goals, and adhering to safety standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide technical support for troubleshooting and maintenance of site electrical equipment and associated systems.

• Track and monitor recurring electrical issues and develop solutions to resolve them.

• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency and safety.

• Investigate electrical equipment failures and implement corrective actions to improve reliability.

• Oversee the electrical reliability program for distribution equipment and machine systems.

• Manage electrical projects, including facility expansions and new equipment installations.

• Supervise contractors, vendors, and engineering firms as needed for various projects.

• Prepare project Bill of Materials and execute projects within budget constraints.

• Ensure all work complies with national and local electrical codes and regulations.

• Troubleshoot and program PLC systems in ladder logic and function block programming.

• Program and troubleshoot variable frequency drives (VFDs) and PLCs.

• Support electrical/controls technician training and job planning for standard work.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

• 4+ years of industrial experience in electrical power distribution and controls/instrumentation.

• Proficient in reading electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

• Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification.

• Experience troubleshooting servo/stepper motors.

• Familiarity with mass flow controllers.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Strong understanding of electrical systems, equipment, and components (e.g., switchgear, MCC, VFDs, motors).

• Knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC) standards.

• Proficiency with diagnostic tools like multimeters.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

• Capable of identifying risks and communicating timelines to senior management.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

• Strong leadership and team management abilities.

• Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.

Physical Demands:

• Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and use of hands.

• Occasional sitting, climbing, stooping, crawling, and crouching.

• Ability to lift/move up to 10 lbs regularly, and up to 50 lbs occasionally.

• Ability to adjust focus between near and far distances, with good color vision.
