Elizabeth (Beth) Barnes is a highly accomplished leader and researcher with a diverse professional background in artificial intelligence and philanthropy. Currently serving as the Founder and co-CEO of METR since August 2022, Elizabeth is also a Pledger at Founders Pledge. Previously, Elizabeth worked at OpenAI as a researcher on the Alignment Team from June 2019 to September 2022 and gained experience as a research assistant to the Chief Scientist at DeepMind during a brief stint in 2018. In addition, Elizabeth has contributed to the Center for Human-Compatible AI and the Center for Pathogen Evolution in research roles and co-founded Future of Sentience Cambridge, aiming to inspire future leaders in technology. Educational accomplishments include a degree in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge, with a preceding International Baccalaureate at Exeter College.
