MTA
Carl Hamann is the Acting Chief Safety Officer. In this role, Hamann is responsible for leading and implementing the organizations’ safety efforts, coordinating multi-agency emergency management responses, and ensuring consistent safety-related policies across the entire MTA. Hamann’s work helps ensure the safety of the MTA’s 70,000 employees and millions of daily mass transit riders.
Hamann has spent 27 years at the MTA, working in a variety of safety-related positions. In 1997, he started as a System Safety Specialist and eventually worked his way up the ranks to become the Vice President of System Safety for New York City Transit. While Vice President of System Safety, Hamann oversaw all safety disciplines at the agency, including fire safety, engineering, environmental, and more. He also led accident investigations for major incidents to identify root causes and eliminate repeat events.
Hamann has a degree in Engineering from Stony Brook University. He holds a Professional Engineer license and is a Certified Safety Professional.
