MMBL Money Transfer (Pvt.) Ltd (MMTL) is a company licensed by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to provide money transfer services in Sri Lanka.

The company commenced operations in December 1995 as a part of Mountain Hawk Express (Pvt.) Ltd (MHEL) a wholly owned subsidiary of Mercantile Merchant Bank Ltd (MMBL).

MMTL was incorporated in 2002 to take over the money transfer operations of MHEL. In October 2006, Aitken Spence PLC bought a 50% stake in the company together with management control through a joint venture with Mercantile Merchant Bank Ltd.

Aitken Spence PLC, whose history dates back to 1868, is a Sri Lankan blue chip conglomerate with operations in South Asia, the Middle East, Africa and the Pacific. Listed in the Colombo Stock Exchange since 1983, it has major interests in Hotels, Travel & Tourism, Maritime Services and Logistics, Plantations, Power Generation, Financial Services, and Property Development.

Incorporated in March 1973 and a rich history of 3rd generation entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka, Mercantile Merchant Bank Ltd; has substantial experience in the private equity investment business, brand/franchise management, investment banking, accounting, law, general management, management consulting and project promotion.

Backed by such a formidable partnership, today, MMBL Money Transfer operates through an island-wide network of 3000+ payout locations comprising of Banks, non-banking financial institutions, co-operative rural banks, other corporate entities, pawing & money changers, agency post offices and most importantly retail outlets giving the consumer the widest choice of easily accessible “right next door” locations.
