Nabiha Syed

Nabiha Syed is an accomplished legal professional and expert in media law, currently serving as Executive Director at Mozilla since July 2024 and President and Chief Executive Officer of The Markup since August 2019. Syed has a notable background in academia as a Research Fellow at Yale Law School, focusing on journalist security and newsgathering tools, and co-founded the Media Freedom and Information Access legal clinic in 2009. Previous roles include Nonresident Fellow at Stanford University's Center for Internet and Society, Vice President and Associate General Counsel at BuzzFeed, and First Amendment Fellow at The New York Times. Syed holds a Doctor of Law (J.D.) from Yale Law School, an M.St. in Law from the University of Oxford, and additional education from The Johns Hopkins University.
