Giovanna joined NIS after gaining extensive industrial experience in the field of protein structures and structure-guided drug discovery at Merck & Co. An accomplished crystallographer, in 2016 she joined the New York Structural Biology Center to learn cryo-EM in order to help launch the discipline at Merck, where she played a pivotal role in establishing the new cryo-EM facility and promoting the use of cryo-EM for drug discovery. Giovanna received a BS in organic chemistry and a PhD in X-ray protein crystallography from Padua University (Italy).
